For me, the worst thing people and businesses can do is treat social media as a broadcast medium – whether this be blogs, Twitter or any other platform. Networks need to be developed organically, and this can only happen through mutual interest and trust.

In social media, you’re communicating with people on their own turf. With so many things shouting for your attention, irrelevant content and spam doesn’t just turn people off, it cheeses them off. I just blocked a guy on HubDub for spamming me with questions to predict on, for example.

So I definitely agree. Listening, authenticity, sharing and responding are essential for creating valuable dialogue, and that’s what it’s all about.
